gas line REPAIR

Many people are not aware that not all gas lines are maintained and repaired by their natural gas utility company. There are typically two sets of lines: those that connect your home or business at the meter to the main lines which supply your area and those that run through your structure to supply gas to appliances. Your gas company inspects and repairs issues with their gas lines; when repairs are needed to your home or business’s gas lines, call Philbrick Heating, Cooling, Plumbing and Electrical.

If you smell gas outside, you should notify your gas utility company so they can send representatives to inspect the gas lines and make any necessary repairs. If you smell gas inside, the gas company may shut off the gas supply to your home for protection, but it is usually your responsibility to repair gas lines inside for safe use.

If you suspect a gas leak, it is important to leave the house or building. Take family members and pets outside to safety if at home, and alert all employees and others to safely exit your place of business. Don’t shut off electrical devices that are on when you suspect a leak because it could cause a spark and ignite leaking gas. You can also shut off the main gas valve to prevent further leakage and hazards. Your main gas valve is likely located by the meter, on the exterior gas pipe which leads into your home or building.

When you suspect a gas leak, don’t take chances with the safety of your family and others. Call your local fire department and your gas company once you are safely outside. They will work to determine if a leak is present, if it is coming from inside the home or building, and if and when it is safe for you to return.

Leaks in your gas lines require repair for continued, safe use of any gas appliances. Philbrick's technicians are trained to diagnose and repair your gas lines to solve leaks and prevent further issues.
